Black And White Photo Color Effect
Learn how to create the popular look of a colorized black and white photo using Photoshop.
Okay. Here’s the final trick I’m going to show you with this image. It’s not how I’m going to use the image in the final layout, but it’s something that probably would be of interest, and I think this photo would look great using it. Having a black and white photo with some color added into it, which is a fairly popular feature with photography these days.
But here’s the quick and easy way to do that in Photoshop with a colored image. What I would do is I would take the original layer, and make another copy. On the top layer, In the File menu select Image > Adjustments > Desaturate. It will turn the layer black and white.
I’m also going to add a little bit more contrast to the image by selecting the Brightness and Contrast feature. Bump that up just a little. Just keep trying it, to see how it looks.
Then I’m going to take my eraser tool, we are going to reveal his shirt so the red is popping up. I’m gonna select a larger brush for the most part of it. Again, I definitely like to scroll or zoom in as much as possible so I have more control over my work area.
I’m also going to adjust the opacity just a bit. That way, the red isn’t too saturated against the black and white. I’m going to go just start erasing.
Be careful if you’re using a feathered brush, as this might actually erase more than you really want it to. Use a slow, steady hand. That’s all you need to do.
