A "First" in Scrapbooking

The birth of a new baby is one of the most exciting moments in a young parent's life. They find out a bundle of joy is on its way and they begin a whirlwind of planning and preparation. The nursery is decorated, the tiny clothing purchased, the household is "childproofed" (if there is such a thing).

Finally, the wait is over, the new baby is here! It is a natural phenomenon for new parents to document every priceless moment! Yet at this time in your life, you might feel overwhelmed by the choices of scrapbooking baby items out there. Card stock, die cuts, glue dots, digital scrapbooks, stickers galore, printable scrapbook pages! It's enough to make even the veteran scrapbook artist dizzy.

One way to create a baby scrapbook layout design is to stay with the "firsts" as you would in a traditional baby book. You can designate each page to one of your baby's "firsts". For example, you could use a "tooth shaped" paper frame for that picture of baby with his first tooth and then place it on a patterned paper with a border. This simple scrapbook is a very popular way to organize your baby's first few years that is fun and easy and will get you started without a lot of stress.

One of my favorite "first" pages is the first haircut. You can design this page in many ways, some fun designs I have seen used are a barber's chair, a die-cut of large scissors, a large mirror made from card stock and foil, but most all of the pages include a lock of sweet soft hair.

If your time is limited and you cannot decide what you would like to do, you can purchase baby scrapbook layout pages that fit a three-ring spiral scrapbook. In this way, you can forgo the page making process, simply place the pictures or mementoes on the pre-made pages, and place them in page protectors. With this type of scrapbook, you can also move pages around or even replace them later on.

Whatever type of scrapbook you choose to make, your child will be grateful for this gift of time and love from you. They will know they are special to you because you took time to document their life.
